Fabricated Stories; What Does Jeffrey Gettlemen Want? By Abdullahi Khalif-Gariile
|
Anyone who has been following the anger-motivated series of articles by Jeffrey Gettlemen of New York Times against Ethiopia in general, and Somali Regional State in particular, could ask; what does Jeffery Gettlemen want? His latest article; Ethiopia Civilians are forced to fight Ethiopian rebels, clearly demonstrates his feeling of deep-seated resentment against the Ethiopian people and their government.
While that article is obviously a well-coordinated work of combined anti-peace, anti-development elements, with Jeffreys assistance, the disappointment of the people in Somali Regional State with New York Times needs to be noted. In Somali Regional State, The New York Times is now seen as practicing double standard by always trying to tarnish the image of their government while turning blind eyes to the disruptions of their livelihood by the Eritrea trained and armed groups.
The terrible brutality acts of the all-out coordinated armed operations of the MJXSG (United Western Somali Liberation Front, former Al-Itahad organization, which changed its name after the terrorist attack of September 11, 2024 in the U.S) and the ONLF, which James Knight, Director, Office for East Africa, Bureau of African Affairs, recently pointed out that it receives support from anti-Ethiopian groups connected to terrorism, in Somali Regional State has forced the people of this region to defend their rights to life like any other people. This is consistent with the universal law dedicated in promoting man's rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
The federal government of Ethiopia was elected through the democratic process. That is, the citizens of Ethiopia in general (including the people in Somali Regional State) gave the government a mandate to run the affairs of the country in a way that the lives of all the people of Ethiopia and their properties would be fully protected. By that mandate, both the Federal and Regional governments are expected to distribute the necessary security and to respond to the concerns of the citizens of the country.
The people in Somali Regional State remember the attack that was executed during the 16th celebration of May 28 of this year, in which 52 people, including their president, His Excellency, Abdullahi Hassan, were severely injured, the lives of innocent civilians exterminated in Oballe oil field, the elders and aid workers killed on roads across the region by land mines planted by ONLF. However, to their surprise, those who proudly claim these brutal acts are today freely walking the streets of London, Melbourne, Oslo and Washington as if they never did anything wrong. Mr. Jeffrey knows of all these developments. Can he tell us if his articles are balanced and more to the truth? Why does he keep fabricating story after story to spoil the image of Ethiopia in general, and of Somali Regional State in particular?
Given the great newspaper he works for, Mr. Jeffrey should be ashamed of himself by making up stories against others for personal matters, which is both disrespectful and an unethical in journalism terms.
